Besides, Parker L has a special place in my heart, as we’re not only both recovering artist, but also because of his great taste in authors, amongst which he notes Hemingway and Hunter S. Thompson. No, but seriously, the featured artist of Alcoholic Outsider Artist is Parker Lanier, who describes himself and his artistic vision in the following way: “51 year old recovering alcoholic artist. Since I had my moment of clarity a few 24 hours ago I cannot stop drawing and creating things out of found objects. Outsider/visionary in the truest sense of the word.”

Aside from the 100+ works of recovery art that Parker L has available for viewing on the site, he also has a compilation video that features a collection of his works to the sounds of “Dreadful Selfish Crime” by Robert Earl Keen (Please see video below). Also on the Alcoholic Outsider Artist site are listings of future events, which include “The Folk-Outsider Art” show to be held in June of 2009 at the Talents Coffee Studio in Springfield, TN. Additionally, the site offers more info on a future full-length documentary film that features Parker Lanier’s artwork titled, “My Name Was Bette: Life and Death.” Finally, for those interested in seeing Parker L’s recovery art in person, it is up on display at the Anchors Aweigh AA Club in Key West, Florida. Recovery Arts is proud to announce our first “Recovery Art” contribution. The submission was sent by Adrien of Arizona, who has less than a year in recovery. Thanks a lot for sharing your Recovery Art, Adrien. Hopefully this piece of art will serve to inspire other people to also express themselves in creative ways and to keep on trucking down the path of recovery. Please find the painting “The Duality of Addiction” below, along with some of Adrien’s sentiments on recovery and the role art can play to help someone in recovery that is seeking an alternative outlet to consuming:

“I’ve been clean for almost a year now. I always wanted to paint, because I’m a creative person, but when I was getting high there was always an excuse and distraction that kept me from the positive things that I wanted to actively pursue. Nonetheless, after I started attending group and staying away from bad influences, I found myself with more free time, so I picked up the brush and started putting my thoughts and feeling on the canvas. To me, “The Duality of Addiction” was one of the paintings that highlighted me trying to part with the dark side of myself that led me to using. The painting served as a way of saying goodbye to my addiction.”

Adrien

Recovery Arts Blog » Recovery Art

Recovery Art: A Review of AlcoholicOutsiderArtist.blogspot.com

Recovery Art

Sober Living

Alcoholic Outsider Artist

Parker Lanier

With nearly 12,000 hits on its page counter and regularly updated posts of the newest paintings that comprise its remarkable gallery, AlcoholicOutsiderArtist.blogspot.com has definitely earned its spot amongst the premier recovery art websites on the net.
