Greetings from Ernesto

Hey all, Ernesto here.  I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself and encourage everyone to submit their works to Recoveryarts.com.  We’re looking for submissions, so for those of you who are trying to build a portfolio, consider this a great opportunity to have your work published or showcased.  For those of you who are simply posting as a creative outlet, to express yourself, or to vent and get something of your chest – regardless of whether you’re an addict or not – this is also a great opportunity and you are also welcomed.  For those interested, please send your work in any digital format to: ernestosthompson@gmail.com

I’d like to begin by posting one of my own poems. I titled this one Hallelujah Unsung, and it’s about a couple of friends of mine, one of whom is a recovering addict in jail and another that died of a heroine overdose…

    Hallelujah Unsung –

    A makeshift Tattoo gun
    reveals the  unseen

    Like sidewalk forgotten rooftops
    from a neighboring balcony

    Decisions that slide
to a life time of consequence

    the bloody ink mockingbird
    harkens from a shoulder

As it swoops and takes the Monarch
by the roadside, it tells a tragedy
    of an unaware pedestrian

So much depends on a tiny scratch
on the lens of the Hubble

Or the dollar bill that wins the lotto

There is a train whose coming shakes the field,
and a man in a windowless cell that wipes his tears
    as it passes.

I am really touched by Recovery Arts, and want you to know you have my prayers and support.

I volunteer at a Sober Club. I can honestly say the fellowship, the self-reflection and the determination evident in the principles recovery is life changing, and powerful. It has something for us all. It tells us we struggle but are not broken. We make mistakes, at at times feel so alone and unworthy–but our lives have purpose, and we are loved, always, by God. The transformation, the effort, the tears and sweat..brings us to a stronger place. Not the same, but worth it to live differently.

    Blessings,

    Lynn
